Gross and disgusting South Park episode yanked

Date December 30, 2005

Responding to protests from the Catholic League, Comedy Central has yanked reruns of the _South Park_ “Bloody Mary” episode that ran earlier this month. It’s a pretty gross episode, but then … it’s _South Park_. BoingBoing “has a little more detail”:http://www.boingboing.net/2005/12/29/bloody_mary_resurrec.html (warning: offensive South Park stills). I wrote in protest. Here’s an excerpt of what I sent:

bq. If the Catholic League does not want to watch “Bloody Mary,” they have plenty of opportunities to not do so. Yanking the show is a disservice to those of us literate enough to read and understand warning labels. And if people can protest your shows are offensive and get them yanked, what would that do to the Daily Show? What would that do to comedy in general? Comedy is offensive, unless you’re in Lake Woebegone.

If you want to write Comedy Central and remind them that a) Comedy is often offensive and b) they’ve been running a major disclaimer in front of South Park for years, you can “do so here”:http://www.comedycentral.com/help/questionsCC.jhtml.
