Photographic choices

I’ve been reading Michael Shaw’s BAGNewsNotes, who’s focus is on the editorial content of news photographs. For example, you can see McCain photos that bring their own captions.
Along the same lines as that I noticed these two photographs side-by-side on the Washington Post site Wednesday morning:

The Associated Press Obama image on the left is a classic politician pose; he could practically be a statue on Monument Avenue (except, of course, that all but one of those monuments are Confederates). On the right, though, the Post’s own photographer seems to have caught McCain drowning in his own legacy.
