Cory’s first spring

Date March 28, 2008

Getting an Early Start It’s hard for me to believe it, but Cory is almost nine months old. He’s getting around the apartment very well now, creeping across the floor and occasionally walking a perimeter by hanging onto various bits of furniture. He’s helped immensely with the de-cluttering effort, although truth be told most of what we take out of his reach just gets put on a higher surface.

We haven’t seen him sit up on his own yet. He doesn’t seem to see the point. And while he can crawl he only does it when he needs to get over the top of something. Otherwise creeping is apparently good enough. I think there’s a future programmer in there. But I doubt he’s going to be much of an engineer.

While this is Cory’s first spring ever, this is our first spring in Blacksburg since we moved here. We could hear the peepers on spring nights even in Arlington, but here in Blacksburg they’re loud enough to compete with the television if you have your door standing open.

We kept Cory indoors most of the winter. Not only does it get cold in Blacksburg but it gets pretty windy, too. So except for short dashes to the car we didn’t walk him around much. But now that it’s spring we’ve started introducing him to the outside. There’s a lot of red eyes and red noses and wind-caused tears, but he seems to be getting used to the idea.

Glenfiddich is a good starter. Looking forward to meeting your son soon. I has been almost year, and well past time in seeing you and the elf.
