A few folks have dropped by or emailed today to discuss the shootings. They know I’m a Tech grad and they know I’m moving back to Blacksburg. Some are concerned about that move, as though this – the actions of a lone deranged lunatic — suddenly makes the town a lot less safe. It’s no less safe today than it was yesterday.
There is nothing about this incident that is unique to Virginia Tech. One person properly armed can kill a whole bunch of people. We’ve learned this lesson again and again.
It’s not the fault of geography. You can’t be afraid of Blacksburg. You have to be afraid of people instead.
