I’ve been to Boston twice, first on a business retreat with my old company, the now defunct and much mourned Clara Vista Corporation. This trip was in December and was pure misery thanks to some poor decision making and a driver who confused “North” for “South” on the way home.
The second time I was in Boston was for the AAAS(American Association for the Advancement of Science) annual meeting, which was held in February. I had to work a booth at the time and was just recovering from having my wisdom teeth removed. I was cold, miserable, and in pain for most of the trip; and since I was working twelve hour days, I did not get to see any of the city except for the hotel room, a mall, and a Legal Seafoods. “I was underwhelmed”:http://www.thudfactor.com/textpattern/16/what-the-market-will-bear-if-its-not-very-bright.
Here on my own time and in nicely brisk early autumn weather, it’s a much better experience. In fact, we are already more impressed with Boston than we were with San Francisco — mostly because we are great beer fans, and Boston is clearly the place for beer. There are four pubs on the same block as our hotel!
