Little Hamsters, Big Adventures

Date September 30, 2002

Hello, and hello again. Thank you, Glen, for keeping my web site at least somewhere in the Google page-ranking by guest-hosting. The one thing I said to him before I left was “whatever you do, don’t talk about drugs.” I think we can all be proud of his restraint. We may hear more from Glen — especially since I haven’t turned off his sign-in — but for now if you need more of a fix you can check out the DVD reviews page where Glen has done the most recent movie reviews.

Although I’m still “officially” on my honeymoon, I now have an Internet connection. There have been a number of topics in the last week that I’ve thought would make a good weblog entry, but I’m not sure I’ve thought through the deeper ones enough to make good sense at the moment. Also, “internet access” does not mean I can do a lot to my weblog, like upload photos from our trip, because I am currently using OS X on a Macintosh and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to crop a photo to my usual 400×166 size. So you’re just going to have to wait for those. A hint about what they contain: we were in the path of the rapidly weakening Hurricane Isadore. Yes, that’s right: it rained on our entire North Carolina Trip.

But I did eat rattlesnake and gator. And Sarah and I discovered that Asheville, North Carolina has the Western World’s highest per capita of Tibetian Singing Bowls, lots of fancy boutique shops, and two significantly dull head shops. Seriously, how many art-glass bongs does one need?

Oh, yes. We watched sharks swim over our heads in the Gatlinburg, Tennessee aquarium. About which more later also.

Hi, John! Glad to see you’re back on the wire, if even on OS X.

It was difficult to avoid the subject of drugs, yes, but I think I skirted the issue nicely.

    :-)
