Mostly cloudy, with scattered Senate Warfare
May 23, 2005
Several years ago when I worked at FEMA(Federal Emergency Management Agency), I’d watch the weather reports to get an idea of how difficult my week at work was going to be. Tornados and floods were bad, but hurricanes were the worst. Days of build-up to the event, then usually a month of heavy web-site updates afterwards.
Now I read political blogs to get a sense of what my commute is going to be like. With the prospect of parlimentary procedure warfare looming as the current administration seeks to enshrine its special brand of ideology-free cronism in the courts, I will probably need a machete to get through the protesters at the subway station.
Note that I will not actually be taking a machete. For a number of reasons, not the least of which is I’m not even allowed a pocket-knife at work for fear I will fatally stab an apple.
Current politics is depressing enough without having it directly affect your commute to work.
