Just us kids

Date April 27, 2008

I just purchased the new album (Just Us Kids) by my favorite singer/songwriter James McMurtry. I haven’t even listened to it yet, but I was reading about it on Wired just now and was surprised to read this:

The songwriter — who has been playing guitar since his father, novelist Larry McMurty, got him an ax at age 7 — has been recording for the past two decades. His ninth album, Just Us Kids, will be released April 15 on Nashville-based Lightning Rod Records. [ South By So What ]

Nine albums? Twenty years? Which albums did I miss? So I looked through my collection and sure enough, nine albums. Twenty years. I have the full set. I didn’t discover him until Candyland, four years into his recording career. But that still means I’ve been listening to James McMurtry for sixteen years.

And those albums still haven’t gone stale. Unlike almost every other album I bought sixteen years ago.
