Assault on Sex
February 24, 2006
Gary “points out a story”::http://matchingtracksuits.com/2006/02/24/the-alternative about the new South Dakota anti-choice law. The full-on assault on sex has begun.
I’ve written before about how we can “reduce abortions _now_”:http://www.thudfactor.com/textpattern/335/5-ways-we-can-help-the-unborn — but Conservatives “don’t want to come to the table”:http://www.thudfactor.com/textpattern/520/5-ways-redux. And, after much other thinking, I’ve finally come to the conclusion that most anti-choice advocates have _zero_ concern for children and far more interest in “social and political control over people’s lives”:http://www.thudfactor.com/textpattern/1283/the-conservative-agenda-slowly-exposed.
_Roe_ may be overturned — briefly, I hope — and when it does, look for these other challenges. Anyone who thinks it’ll stop at anti-choice laws and anti-gay amendments is a fool. already we hear rumblings about revisiting _Griswold_ (the Birth Control decision) and taking on “no-fault divorce”:http://www.thudfactor.com/textpattern/1357/give-us-today-our-daily-boink. Some, even further on the right, want to make “childless marriages illegal”:http://www.thudfactor.com/textpattern/1006/freedom-not-to-hear.
Realistically, _Griswold_ may be threatened; but I don’t think it will go much further than that. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be paying attention, though, or speaking out against Church-led attempts to take over our private lives. Even if we can’t imagine the worst ever happening, we need to fight against it.
We’ve already seen in the last five years what happens when we become complacent.
