Bush proposes cutting counter-terrorism programs

Date December 5, 2007

There’s a lot of big news, but this one seems to be flying under the radar. Remember the old saw government that governs least governs best? Well, apparently that extends to counter-terrorism efforts. From the Carpetbagger Report quoting MSNBC:

The Bush administration intends to slash counterterrorism funding for police, firefighters and rescue departments across the country by more than half next year, according to budget documents obtained by The Associated Press.

The plan calls outright elimination of programs for port security, transit security, and local emergency management operations in the next budget year. This is President Bush’s last budget, and the new administration would have to live with the funding decisions between Jan. 20 and Sept. 30, 2009.

He wants to kill port security and decimate first-responder funding. I’d love to hear his rationale for that.

That old thing about how the best defense is a good offense. He probably plans on simply invading and occupying every other country and securing terrorism that way, while getting access to any resources that might be handy.

    Everybody wins!

The Bush administration has treated their tenure in office as one big Opposite Day, haven’t they? Seriously, this just needs a snazzy title like “the Counterrorism Recommitted Support Act of 2007″ and it’s complete.

Chimpy has never given a damn about the security of Americans. If his deep cuts in funding for Police didn’t prove that, then Katrina surely did. This is no surprise at all.

It’s because we’re successfully fighting them “over there” so we no longer need to worry about “over here.”

Heh. I like that. Opposite Day. *snicker*
