Corrupt politicians: I know what my vote is

Matt at MyDD warns that William Jefferson, the Democrat facing significant ethics charges, is not the only Democrat likely to be threatened by ethics charges. “He says”:http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/5/22/3391/33785:
bq. Having Democrats with ethical problems is a bad situation. Ethically challenged are weakened dramatically, since mostly everyone has leverage over them, including Republicans and journalists. They also weaken the party, since the entire leadership of the party must make a choice about whether to throw them under the bus or stand behind their ethical transgressions.
For what it’s worth, I say “throw them under the bus.” I’m not trying to encourage the Spanish Inquisition here, but as far as I’m concerned, a Democrat that violates ethical principles, takes bribes, or misuses what little political authority they currently have is _not a Democrat_ any longer, and doesn’t deserve the protection of the party or its supporters.
