How the Wingnuts dismissed F911

Date July 23, 2004

Here’s an interesting paragraph from an AP article (reproduced here at Salon):

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP)—Republicans initially dismissed “Fahrenheit 9/11” as a cinematic screed that would play mostly to inveterate Bush bashers. Four weeks and $94 million later, the film is still pulling in moviegoers at 2,000 theaters around the country, making Republicans nervous as it settles into the American mainstream…

Of course, it was right-wing attempts to supress the film that pushed it so far into the mainstream. First Disney refuses to distribute it (a little more attention), then conservatives start a letter-writing campaign to keep theaters from showing the movie.

If the conservatives really had dismissed F9/11, then it probably would not be where it is now…
