Kerry’s Medals
September 29, 2004
Here’s an interesting site: “John Kerry’s Vietnam Medals”:http://homepage.mac.com/chinesemac/kerry_medals/summary.html, a rather lengthy refutation of _Unfit for Command_. Unlike most efforts I’ve seen to discredit the book, Eric Rasmussen actually addresses the argument of the book itself rather than trying to discredit the book based on who paid for it, which I think is a much stronger argument.
I know a lot of people think the Vietnam issue or the font issue or what have you are unimportant distractions from genuinely important issues. I’m not one of those people — at this point, a genuinely important issue is anything that has an undecided voter on the fence or anything that has a moderate Republican holding their nose and voting for Bush. Of course, we’d all like to see the more current issues debated in the mainstream media but there are enough other voices (and other means of broadcast) in this election that we ought to be able to cover all bases.
Yelling at someone and calling him or her stupid because his or her priorities don’t match yours is not, in my short experience, an effective persuasion method.
