Religious (Left) Liberty
June 28, 2006
In the “Religious Left speaking more loudly” category, Jason at the Wild Hunt “draws attention to the Religious Coalition for the Freedom to Marry”:http://www.wildhunt.org/2006/06/stop-trying-to-decide-who-we-can-marry.html, an interfaith organization of people who support the legalization of gay marriage.
Dominionist political strategy relies on tricking people into thinking their agenda is universal among religious communities[1] and that tolerance for those views is nothing more than basic respect for people of different viewpoints. But there are a number of faiths, including some Christian communities, that _do not_ see homosexuality as sin. If laws _allowing_ gay marriage are an unconscionable intrusion into the faiths of conservative Christians, then laws _banning_ gay marriage are also an unconscionable intrusion into the faiths of the various welcoming congregations.
It’s good to see the Religious Left taking this fight directly to the people trying to step on their rights, and if you are of a like mind, “the RCFM”:http://www.rcfm.org/ deserve whatever support you can manage to give them.
fn1. Which is the A-Number-One reason I get so incensed when I see atheist arguments treating Dominionist religious views as representative of religion in general; they are spreading Dominionist propaganda for them.
