Sandy Berger

Date July 23, 2004

I suppose I should address the Sandy Berger issue. No, I’m not going to synopsize it. Everyone else has better synopsis.

Basically, Berger’s handling of classified materials earns him a legal investigation, and deservedly so. People should treat classified material with more respect no matter who they are. I am very disappointed in Berger, who should have known better.

But administration pearl-clutching over the matter seems overwrought. The fact that this administration has tried to hide materials from the comission themselves and refused to testify until pressured has kind of lost them the moral high ground as far as I’m concerned.

Then when you include this administration’s selective declassification of materials for political gain as well as leaking life-threatening secrets to the media or casually sharing papers marked “NOFORN” (no foriegn) with Saudis, the sound and fury over the Berger affair just doesn’t sound very … serious, does it?

I did not realize that only Democrats were accountable under the law.

well that’s because liberals are hedonist bastards, so of course they’re subject to law. The only law to judge Conservatives is god.

    hahahahaha

The Philly Inquirer had a rather stinging condemnation of House Republican leadership in an editorial on this yesterday. You might need to register (free), but it is at http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/editorial/9210774.htm

While criticizing Berger’s behavior, the Inky sees the hue and cry as a distraction tactic from the 9/11 Commission report: “Hastert and DeLay overlooked one key fact - not that they were the slightest bit concerned with facts, only with creating a distraction from today’s release of the 9/11 report.

What Berger reportedly took were copies of memos. Copies. The originals remained in the Archives, available to the 9/11 panel. And, as Berger’s attorney shouted to the heavens, the investigation began last fall, with Berger penitent and cooperating. Why the fuss now?”

Good Me! - after three and a half years of The Chimperor, you didn’t know that?

The coincidence (cough) of this coming out (with a convenient hook to blame the Clenis for 911) when the 911 commission’s report is released would almost lead some out there to place their faith in Me. suckers!

[trollphylactic: all references to a mythical Invisible Cloud Being are intended as satire only. Unless you want to start sending me your regular tithe to the Christian Broadcasting Network - then as far as you're concerned, I need some extra funds so I can finish the details on Our Lord And Savior's Master Plan. And I have God's cell phone number...]
