The Plame Game
July 25, 2005
I’ve heard a number of liberals insist that the Valerie Plame issue is not particularly important and we should be focusing on the “real issues.” I resent this for a number of reasons, chief among them being that I have a number of friends with security clearances who would have faced significant jail time for doing _less_ than Karl Rove apparently did. Having people who are on my side insist that that Karl Rove of all people should be exempt from laws that threaten ruination to my friends kinda gets up my nose.
But in yesterday’s New York Times, Frank Rich “describes how the Plame incident is tied to the war”:http://tinyurl.com/7bc9l. The larger story is about the motivation for outing the covert agent — the lies told to protect the smear that was used to discredit a critic of the war.
Many of us who have been opposed to the war have been wondering how to convince people that Bush lied us into Iraq when all the evidence is dismissed in favor of the “but Bush is a good Christian” argument. But the Plame story is sticking when nothing else would. The more we keep hammering on this issue, the more people will understand that Bush only seems like a good Christian because he spends so much time hiding behind them.

Keep hammering!
There are conservatives that are beginning to realize that Bush is just a bag of lies. Over at
http://theunitedamerican.blogs.com/bring_it_on/
Chris from Liberal Idaho has posted a story about talking to a selfproclaimed conservative that is upset with Bush. Any patriotic Conservative needs to realize that Bush has lied to us for several years and most likely longer.
It’s too bad that the lies were believed during the election. Even with all the people telling us about fixing the evidence and Joe Wilson telling us there weren’t any nukes. People would rather believe the lies about John Kerry…

I agree. The security risk taken is an issue, and should be dealt with appropriately, while simultaneously uncovering the motive behind this and a few other red flags (i.e., lying to get us into Iraq).

In reference to comment #2, luckily he’s not the only one who has seen a Republican waking up. Friends have told me the same thing when they went down south for a trip and talked to previously staunched Repubs who are now doubting the Bush administration.
I think people are beginning to wake up, even though it’s gradual, it’s happening.
