Touchy, Touchy! Wingnuts Discover the Joys of Political Correctness
June 25, 2004
Anyone else think the right wing has become overly sensitive? Sadly, No! has this
[Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt] also blasted Kerry for criticizing Reagan’s fiscal record. “Kerry’s attack on President Reagan is beyond the pale, and will be very troubling to most Americans,” he said.
Beyond the pale? That’s a klezmer band, yes?
Seriously. It’s not just criticism of Reagan that’s now outside the bounds of polite discourse, AKA “beyond the pale.” It’s also any criticism of the war in Iraq because it demoralizes the troops or criticism of social conservative mores because it’s insensitive to religion. And after eight years of calling Clinton by the gut-wrenchingly graphic (if appropriate) moniker “Slick Willie,” the Right Wingnuts are all up in arms about liberals not showing the Office of the President “the respect it deserves.”
Awfully strange behavior for people who used to—and in some instances still—relish being offensive to prove they’re not “politically correct.”
Pity the poor wingnuts, for they have become what they once mocked.
