Word confusion
Surfing blogs more or less randomly, I see a lot of confused conservative webloggers. At first, I thought they didn’t understand what “communism” and “socialism” are. And then I thought they were intentionally framing the far more general “liberal” as communism and socialism in order to demonize liberals. But now I’m beginning to think a lot of them really believe “communism” and “socialism” are names you call people, like “egg sucker” or “Dick Cheney.”
“Communism”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism and “socialism”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism are specific terms for very structured schools of political thought. They are not epithets. If you want to rail against John Kerry or Howard Dean as “communist,” that is fine. But please don’t mistake it for actual political thought. You are throwing bricks at things you don’t understand.
