Pope

So, I’m disappointed in the choice of Pope, of course, but the refrain I’m hearing of “he won’t live long enough to matter” makes me a little uncomfortable and I’ve heard enough about his so-called “Nazi” past to make me not want to jump to conclusions there. Being forced into membership with the Nazi Youth then deserting from the Luftwaffe does not a facist make.

It’s also worth pointing out (as New Donkey “points out”:http://feeds.feedburner.com/NewDonkey?m=342) that while he may be a jerk on issues like abortion and contraception, the Catholic church is not as deeply sold on the blood-to-money alchemy of our current crop of corrupt conservative congressmen, and in those issues he may be a useful ally. I mean, when you’re right you’re right, and I’m not eager to paint myself into a rhetorical corner by labeling a man I may occasionally agree with as Hitler’s soul-mate.

That kind of vitrol I reserve for _Time’s_ most recent cover girl.
