8 random things
CT tagged me ages ago for this 8 random things post, so here goes. Rules first (it’s in the rules):
- We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
- Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
- People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
- At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
- Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog
OK, so my eight.
1. I started a protoblog in 1996 which I maintained by updating the HTML by hand. It was called “Exit, Pursued by Bear” after the unusual stage direction in A Winter’s Tale. I don’t think I have any of that writing any more, but one entry was about why you should vote for Clinton instead of Dole.
2. I learned how to play Barry Mannilow’s “Mandy” on the piano in order to impress a girl when we were in high school. It seems like an odd choice, but she had unusual musical tastes.
3. My first public political writing was a BBS message board post supporting the arrest of 2 Live Crew on obscenity charges. I think I was fifteen years old, and I was pilloried by the rest of the message board community. But that conversation actually changed my mind on censorship laws.
4. When I first joined the Methodist Church my friends held something like an intervention. They were convinced I was going to become a fundamentalist creationist asshole.
5. Throughout most of high school I thought I wanted to be an architect and I took three years of drafting. Well, three years of something called “drafting.” GLS and I just sat in the back and annoyed the teacher by singing spirituals.
6. I had my first alcoholic drink between the ages of six and eight, when I had a sip of white wine. I did not have any alcohol again until several months after I turned 21. I did not drink anything stronger than hard cider until I was 24, and I did not drink beer until I was 26.
7. I used to be very good with a pogo stick. Perhaps I could have mastered the unicycle as well.
8. My earliest career aspiration was to drive an ice cream truck. Thankfully I changed my mind about that, since Elf can’t stand ice-cream trucks.
So. It’s in the rules but I don’t care — I don’t tag. If you want to do this, consider yourself tagged.
