Howard Dean?

Again, I’m liking Howard Dean. Of course, he may be far too liberal to be electable. After all, he’s taxed-and-spent Vermont into a massive deficit. Irresponsible deficit spending like that was never tolerated in George Bush’s Texas.

And Vermont citizens aren’t even allowed to have spitballs, much less carry concealed weapons.

So I do have some concerns.

Again: what Democratic candidates are there that I haven’t heard? And why have I not heard them yet?

I’ll be honest. The main reason I like Dean as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate is that he talks tough. I know we all want our presidential candidate to be a nice guy who listens to all the sides and comes to a reasonable conclusion. And Dean … well, Dean seems *mean* sometimes.

But on the other hand, whoever is candidate will have to face the smear machine of Rove & co. Al Gore just didn’t have the wherewithal to stand up to it, and Edwards feels vulnerable to me as well.

I can’t think of anyone who has been better than Dean at getting people excited and getting his message out. He’s come a long way in a short period of time. Furthermore, he’s been saying something I’ve been saying for a long time myself: Democrats cannot win by “me-too”ing Republicans.

That’s genuinely inspiring. Can we say the same about Kerry? Or Edwards? Are either of them mean enough to take on the Dubbya? Or all they all above fisticuffs, like Al Gore?

That’s not a rhetorical question, that’s an honest one. Comments are down below.

He’s got a lot going for him. He knows how to speak, knows how to act, and knows how to push the hot buttons of democrats. He also knows how to push himself towards the common man. He reminds me of my vet (though my vet is quite likely republican), a no-nonsense, no-sugar-coating guy who’s going to tell you how it is, and then deliver that to everyone he can. I’ve watched several videos of him speaking and the more I see, the more I like.

He’s also already pissed off most of the other Democratic candidates by rather boldly telling them that they aren’t enough democrats and to stop acting like they’re ‘Bush lite’, and the DNC doesn’t like him, which is a big problem. They’ve said under no uncertain terms to the democrats of the US that they’re looking for ‘Bush lite’ because they want someone who’s electable.

I say screw electable, we need someone who’s going to change the world.

He’s the old kind of democrat that makes you go ‘Yeah!’ when you hear him speak and causes little tinglies under your skin. This is the kind of speaker that made me want to be a politician when I was a kid.

I firmly believe he has what it takes to not only take on every Republican out there, but all of the wannabe democrats as well. Many of us have been looking for salvation, and someone with cajones to challenge the presidency, and I think in Howard Dean we just may have found that someone.

As to whether or not he’ll get elected … that’s still up in the air, what with the climate of this nation, currently, but if he dogs Bush’s every step, he might just be able to change minds.

I like Dean as well, and in fact voted for him in MoveOn’s online primary (which ends at 11:59 Eastern tonight).

Having voted for Nader in 2000, however — and rather deseperately wanting someone who will at least try to undo a lot of the damage Bush and company have caused — I’m really very worried about that whole “can’t get elected” factor.

But I don’t see a single Democrat running who has a better chance (just more support from the DNC), and, as you say, Bush-Lite has pretty much backfired on the Democrats every time they’ve tried it.

I think it’s gotta be Edwards or Dean. I wish we could put them in a blender and come out with one candidate between the two of them, though. As much as I REALLY hate this about our country, our electoral is easily swayed by appearances. Edwards is dashing and fluid and together looking at the same time, and can visually take on Bush. Dean can take Bush on with logic, fiery speeches and enthusiasm. I don’t think either has what it takes to do it alone.

I can’t even think about Kerry. I just see him and Gephardt as a shining - glaring, actually - example of the wussiness displayed by the Democratic party in Washington in the past few years.

…And I don’t think any of the other current candidates stand a chance. (I mean, I’ve enjoyed some of Lieberman’s speeches, but he helped lead a losing ticket the first time. Everyone else on the list may as well pretty much not exist.)

I really wish Mark Warner - Virginia’s governor - had run this time. I hope he does next time.

Move aside, and let the man go through.
