Lost in Translation

Sarah and I broke with tradition yesterday and went to see a movie that wasn’t fantasy or science-fiction. We saw Lost in Translation because it’s been getting such good reviews.

And I had so much to say about this film afterwards I broke with another tradition and “reviewed it before it arrived on DVD”:http://reviews.thudfactor.com/review.php?rec=89. Of course, the review is something of a spoiler, so here’s the short version:

I would have rather watched Waterworld. Twice. With a Quackser Fortune chaser.

But then, I’m biased towards movies where things actually happen.

I only just recently saw this movie… and here is my review of it (feel free to add it to A&S):

“Lost in Translation is a really shite movie. Who would have guessed? It was boring, unimaginative, and I really don’t know why anyone would nominate it for an award, much less actually give it one. The only enjoyable thing about it was getting to see some familiar spots of Tokyo and the Taiko no Tatsujin cameo. I didn’t find any of it funny in the slightest, and come on… how many lame ass ‘r’ and ‘l’ pronounciation jokes can you shove into one film? I also think that only people who have actually been to Tokyo would even possess the ability to appreciate and relate to the situations in the movie, and yet by the same hand, if you have been to Tokyo, those very situations are old news. And while even old news can still be interesting, its not nearly enough to hold up what is an extremely weak film.

If for some reason you want to see this movie, please don’t waste your money buying it like I did. You can borrow my copy.”

Move aside, and let the man go through.
