Not electable, my ass.

The Dean campaign set a fundraising goal this weekend of $250,000 — to match the $250,000 Cheney is supposed to make tonight at some sort of fundraising gig. Well, as of 6:30 PM they’ve “raised $441,997.28 from 8,433 contributors”:http://blog.deanforamerica.com/archives/000843.html. That’s an average donation of $52.41.
When I hear people talk about how Dean doesn’t have mass appeal because he’s a) too angry or b) too liberal, I have to wonder why — if that’s true — he’s raising *more* money than the other candidates from more *people* than the other candidates. I mean, that would sound like mass appeal, wouldn’t it? At least among the Democratic camp.

If I remember correctly, the $250,000 for Cheney was coming from a luncheon that cost $1,000 a plate.
So, that would be a little bit better than a 32:1 ratio of contributors.
Now, if we can just get them all to vote…

“Dean doesn’t have mass appeal” = the DLC doesn’t want him to win. I feel fairly secure that people who invest their money or time in a candidate are statistially far more likely to vote than those who don’t, so I’d say out of those 8,433 contributors, probably 8,400 or more would vote for him in the general election.

Angry? Perhaps. Passionate? Udamnbetcha. Frankly, it’s nice to see an angry Democrat. That passion is EXACTLY what has been lacking thus far. People aren’t going to get off their asses and vote for a Democrat unless they’re mad enough to want to make changes. Perhaps Dean will be able to generate that anger among voters.
