Part two: Media Jukebox
On their help forums I posted:
I too purchased version 7 and have been using version 8. I would have been willing to pay a fee to upgrade to 8, but ya’ll decided that you wanted to give us the upgrade for free, which I appreciate.
Your older customers are the ones who have been encouraging other folks to download and try out your software for several years now. But you have decided to abandon them by not providing them with an upgrade path.
I consider this rude in the extreme.
I will be continuing to use Media Jukebox, but I will be sure to tell anyone who’s looking for a good media management system that JRiver abandons their oldest customers.
I get as a response:
Admin: “rude in the extreme”?
We gave you one free one and asked you to pay for the next.
I think we may stop providing any free upgrades.
KingSparta: >> I consider this rude in the extreme.
It reminds me of welfare
you give out one free lunch and they want more.
I thought it was rude to take the free upgrade and then complain.
So, I’ll add “treats customers with respect” to the list of good features of this company.
For the record, the accepted business practice is “wait ’till they’re hooked, then nickle-and-dime them to death.” If you wait ’till they’re hooked and then club them over the head, you tend to knock the fish loose.
(A tortured metaphor, but it works.)
