The Argument

Date December 31, 2002

Following random blog links today led me to this post: The Truth About Me, at Dawn’s weblog, Up Yours and Other More Helpful Tips. She explains the difference between playing politics and talking politics pretty nicely:

Sure I rant. Sometimes those rants are pure bullshit, knee-jerk, crap spewing from my brain to my fingertips utter stupidity… but I beg you, please don’t assume that I don’t care what you think. I not only care, but I read and absorb. I then allow the things you have taken your personal time to express help me form my own ideas about our world.

That’s real politics. That’s discussing and looking for a consensus. If everyone approached politics this way, the system would work a whole lot better. Unfortunately, most people seem to approach politics like it was football. And I think that’s what turns a lot of people off.
