War? What war?
March 27, 2002
There’s an interesting analysis of Bush’s inability to generate much anti-Iraq sentiment over at TomPaine.com. Richard Blow is of the opinion that Bush’s media censorship is costing him at home. There’s no news about the war because news isn’t allowed out; and there’s only so much empty speculation you can take. I’m certain that has a lot to do with it.
I also think it has something to do with his “we’re taking care of the problem, don’t worry your little head about it” attitude. Those who think he’s “doing the right thing” will do the patriotic thing and do what he says. Those of us who are opposed aren’t going to support a war on Iraq without better proof (or focus) anyway. If Bush wants the American people engaged in this, then he’s going to have to tell his supporters to be engaged, and he’s going to have to give the rest of us a little more information.
Either way, it’s more communication than Bush is used to.
