Fallon and War with Iran

Date March 12, 2008

Does Fallon’s resignation mean war with Iran is more likely? When I tell most people (the ones who don’t read blogs) that we’re on a run-up to war with Iran, that there are people in charge who think it’s a really keen idea, and that John McCain is one of them, I get blank incredulous stares. No one thinks we can be that stupid, that we can have three wars going at one time.

Watch. Sometime between now and Inauguration Day we will go to war against Iran. It’s in some people’s economic interests to do so. The PNAC folks (Dick Cheney is a member) would like to see this happen. The religious and wingnut right has been looking for war with Islam for ages. And even though there’s an election going on and Republicans are retiring left and right from Congress, these people are still in charge. And at the top of it all: a self-absorbed Imperial President who seems bothered by the fact that he’s not the center of attention any more and might just start another war to prove he’s still relevant.

Even if Obama or Clinton win the White House I’d expect Bush to go to war just to commit us on that trajectory before we can turn the ship of state around.

Paranoia? Perhaps. But so far this administration has managed to outstrip my most paranoid fantasies.
