Torture at Gitmo becomes murder
April 8, 2008
Three years ago, Limbaugh was saying (and people were repeating) that the Guantanamo Bay prison we were holding suspected terrorists in was practically a vacation spot.
Anything better than diet, Qurans, prayer rugs, I mean where else can Muslims go in the world to find everything they need? There’s no better place than Gitmo. Club G’itmo, the Muslim resort. [ Limbaugh touted "Club G'itmo, the Muslim resort" ]
The torture death toll at Club Gitmo is apparently stands at one hundred and eight right now:
it is clear that Haynes had previously authorized the use of the torture techniques, and had secured an order from Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld authorizing them.
Following the implementation of these techniques, more than 108 detainees died in detention. In a large number of these cases, the deaths have been ruled a homicide and connected to torture. These homicides were a forseeable consequence of the advice that Haynes and Yoo gave. [ A Tale of Three Lawyers ]
And it’s not clear — because the process is not transparent or above-board — whether any of these people were actual terrorists or just people picked up by Afghani Warlords because we were paying a per-head bounty.
