Of course. We all know that New Yorkers are liberal, and liberal = coward, right? Or possibly French. So much for the bravery of the 9/11 survivors and the “never forget” and the dozens of memorials to the bravery of the NYPD and FDNY. I am sure Ann Coulter’s only regret about 9/11 is that Osama didn’t aim those aircraft at Jon Stewart (since we “know how she feels”:http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Ann_Coulter#On_New_York_and_the_New_York_Times about the Oklahoma City bombers).

Speaking of subhumans, Pat “Turn the Other Cheek”:http://mediamatters.org/items/200508220006 Robertson has moved on from praying for the death of Supreme Court justices to encouraging the assassination of Venezuela’s president. This is worse than the Ann Coulter thing, because, well, Ann has always been something of a cesspool of political thought. But Pat Robertson is supposed to be the voice of the God of Love, which puts an extra-special patina of filth on the “let’s kill him for his oil” rationale. If Pat Robertson thinks God is still talking to him, I am going to have to revise my position on the existence of Satan.

All this, of course, after a right-wing smear campaign against a mother who lost her son in Iraq co-ordinated and conducted by “Yellow Elephants”:http://patriotboy.blogspot.com/2005_06_19_patriotboy_archive.html#111924907437313848. At this point, conservatism is so far beyond morally bankrupt that moral bankruptcy could be mistaken for the purest redemption.

*Update:* I revise my earlier position; some conservatives — even Administration conservatives — are still decent enough to recognize that some people might be concerned by naked, pulpit-broadcast violent hate-mongering and are “distancing themselves from -Roberts- Robertson”:http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/week_2005_08_21.php#006333. Perhaps they are not as far over the horizon as I thought. With luck, this will inspire -Golem- Gollum (aka Ann Coulter) to gnaw the One Ring off the Conservatives’ collective finger and save them from themselves.
