Once more into the breach, dear friends. This will be the fourth year I’ve competed in “National Novel Writing Month”:http://www.nanowrimo.org/. So far I have won precisely zero times.
“My brother won last year”:http://www.art-machine.org, and “so did my mother”:http://www.thirdlayer.org/, and “so did Alan Macey”:http://www.alanmacey.com. I congratulate you all and seethe with writerly envy.
I have tried multiple strategies: marathon writing sessions, stream-of-conciousness freewriting, writing on the commute, planning the novel, _not_ planning the novel. Nothing works. This year I am going to try something new. _I am going to pretend I am having fun._
Some people cut themselves with razor blades; I continue to try to write.
Oh: if you won and I forgot to mention you, please feel free to let me know in the comments so I can feel even _worse_ about myself. Thank you.
