Why we think anti-immigrant politics is veiled racism

Sometimes, it’s not veiled. Vox Day at World Net Daily:

bq. And he [George Bush] will be lying, again, just as he lied when he said: “Massive deportation of the people here is unrealistic – it’s just not going to work.” Not only will it work, but one can easily estimate how long it would take. If it took the Germans less than four years to rid themselves of 6 million Jews, many of whom spoke German and were fully integrated into German society, it couldn’t possibly take more than eight years to deport 12 million illegal aliens, many of whom don’t speak English and are not integrated into American society. Vox’s portrait doesn’t help matters.

Incidentally, Vox is angry because he blames illegal Mexican labor for depressing American wages, which is at least partially true in a few service and agricultural industries. But that’s small potatoes next to what Globalization of business without globalization of civil rights and environmental policy has done — stopped the heart of American industry and forced American workers to compete with prison-camp and child labor.

So you might want to look to Republican free-trade policies, Vox, before you start daydreaming about shoving Mexicans into railroad cars.

*Update*: Michelle Malkin offers Bush a “reality check”:http://michellemalkin.com/archives/005196.htm since he’s “lost touch with reality.” Yo, Michelle, hadn’t you heard? We “make our own reality”:http://www.thudfactor.com/wordpress/2004/10/18/reality-based-community/, now.
