Job Phishing (again)
A while back I got an obvious phishing scam “looking for my resume”:http://www.thudfactor.com/wordpress/2006/01/13/new-phishingindentity-theft-scam/, which struck me as kind of odd.
I just got another one, but this one makes sense:
bq. Forgive us the indignation if this message comes to you as a surprise and may offend your personality for contacting you without your prior consent and writing through this channel.We got your contact from the proffesional database found in the internet when we were searching for a reliable foreigner that can retain the position of the vacancies spaces at the McDonald’s.
Here’s what this person wants from me:
* All my diplomas and technical certification certitificates, scanned or faxed.
* My job history.
* _A “refundable” $350 application fee sent by Western Union._
All sent to an address in London.
bq. ALL APPLICANT MUST POCCESS AN O’LEVEL STATEMENT OF RESULT WITH A MINIMUM OF 2-3 CREDITS…ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPULSORY OR A’LEVEL .IF AVAILABLE, OTHER CERTIFICATES AS DIPLOMA AND DEGREE INCLUDING IT PROGRAM CERTIFICATES SHOULD ALSO BE SENT TO US VIA FAX OR EMAIL AS A SCANNED ATTACHMENT.
Yes, I can see how those English skills would be helpful.
Besides the dozens of typos and the nigerian scam phrasing, the other warning bells on this are:
* McDonald’s recruits using a free Yahoo! email address? And responses go to hotmail?
* McDonald’s surely knows it’s illegal in the US to ask marital status on a job application form.
* _A “refundable” $350 application fee sent by Western Union._
Oh, and the generous terms:

MCDONALD’S CORPORATION WILL TAKE CARE OF ALLOWANCES FOR ACCOMODATIONS, FEEDING,INSURANCE AND MEDICAL EXPENSES OF MCDONALD’S CREW ON BOARD.WORKERS ARE ENTITLED TO A MINIMUM OF $5,000 USD SALARY DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS AND NEGOTIATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENTAL HEADS. You know what? How about “no.”
