The Smoking Gun has the papers on former Virginia Tech football star Michael Vick’s indictment in running an illegal dog-fighting ring. The dog-fighting is bad enough, but the group allegedly tortured poor-performing dogs to death.
After a March 2003 loss by a female pit bull, codefendant Purnell Peace, “after consulting with Vick,” electrocuted the animal. In April, prosecutors allege, Vick, Peace, and Quanis Phillips, “executed approximately 8 dogs that did not perform well in ‘testing’ sessions.” These animals, the indictment claims, were killed “by various methods, including hanging, drowning, and slamming at least one dog’s body to the ground.” [ Smoking Gun ]
I will never understand people who are entertained by cruelty to animals. Assuming a conviction, I hope the law does everything to Vick it possibly can. At the very least, he deserves to be disowned by the Hokies — no matter what he did for the athletic program.
